CityBikeMap.com

CityBikeMap.com Beta 1 is out

In a nutshell it's a wiki-like interface for mapping usable bike paths throughout cities. For example, I can make a route from one end of the Midtown Greenway to the other and save it for everyone to see. Someone else can create a trail from Lake Calhoun to the Greenway, or a trail that links the chain of lakes.

Currently it's basic, basically everybody can make lines, but that's really the core idea.

The site is powered by Google Maps and the Google Maps API. I enjoyed making the site, and I have a whole slew of additions I plan to add.

Feel free to create accounts, give me feedback either on the form or in this post. I'll be working on my local version of the site and updating it hopefully every two weeks. The more people that I see using it, and giving me feedback, the more I'll update it. I plan to keep the registration open, until I reach some critical mass. Then I'll cap the users and create an invitation system, just to prevent growing pains.

Looks nice; but when I tried to click on my house to start a path it just kept flashing (for a micro-second) a burgundy red box in the upper right corner which appeared to say "loading paths" and then nothing.

So, I couldn't get it to do anything except what google maps is (zoom in/out, move map around).

Any hints?
When you click "make route" you can begin making a route by double clicking.

Yes, there's quite a few instructions that are needed, but I really wanted to get something up so people could see something.
Is it possible to remove a route?
Nope, but it's in the works.
Dig it!
What's the "Midtown Greenway"?
Currently it's a pedestrian/biking corridor that parallels 29th street from hiawatha to the west end of minneapolis, joining some trail that goes through the sw metro.

Sweet! But, the map isn't showing up when I vist the page. I registered though.
oh no, hmm... I'm not sure why it would be giving trouble, I don't have it check for browser compatibility, but what are you using? I mean, I assume you cansee normal googlemaps, right?
I'm just using Internet Explorer (I know, shame on me). I use google maps on this pc all the time with no issues. Whenever I load your page it says at the bottom Done, but with errors on page. I see your header with the clouds, the Home Register and Feedback buttons and down below I see the Make Route link, but in between it's just white space.
Hmm... yeah, I have yet to test this out on IE. Okay wow, a lot of errors. I'll have to take care of this at work this week. Thanks for pointing it out.
